A guest of the Kaiser: Karl Lagerfeld’s Saint-Germain apartment is now available to rent

For those who have long wished to step inside the world of haute couture, an unusual opportunity has arrived. The legendary Paris office of Karl Lagerfeld — situated in the prestigious Saint-Germain-des-Prés quarter of the 6th arrondissement — has been transformed by Highstay into a luxury residence available for both short and long-term rental.

It was within these walls that the great Kaiser created his collections for Chanel, Fendi and his own house, hosted glamorous gatherings, and gave the interviews that shaped a generation’s idea of fashion.

Lagerfeld treated his office as he did everything else: with complete conviction and an eye for the unexpected. The result is a futurist retreat — steel, mirrors, and glass — that somehow remains warm and deeply personal. Lagerfeld was not only a genius of fashion but a serious and prolific collector of property: he bought and sold more than ten homes in his lifetime, a passion for interior art so considerable it inspired its own book — Karl Lagerfeld: A Life in Houses, published in 2024.

Beyond its atmosphere, the residence is remarkable for its attention to detail. On the first level, a generous living room with a polished chrome library and a dining room well suited to intimate evenings. Above, two bedrooms — the principal of which is a genuine architectural statement: the bed is set within a steel capsule, more avant-garde art object than furniture.

The apartment also offers a professional kitchen, a private bar for two with wine fridges (still stocked with rare bottles), a sauna, and a hammam.

The interiors are threaded through with art. Sculptor Laurence Perratz’s Head in the Clouds XL presides over the space alongside the geometric compositions of Jacques Daïbehè. The element that holds it all together is the staircase — its intricate railings designed by Lagerfeld himself in collaboration with Australian industrial designer Marc Newson.

Those who wish not merely to inhabit a legendary address but to trace the Paris that Lagerfeld loved may arrange a bespoke ‘In Karl’s Footsteps’ itinerary — a walk through his favourite corners of the Left Bank, from the iconic Café de Flore to the Maison du Caviar.
